Newsletter - January 2013

Program Assistant (PA) of the Month:   We are proud to announce that Jenny Min is this month’s recipient of the “FHHSC PA of the Month”.   Jenny is very kind young lady who works extremely well with the CanSkaters and is always supportive of their efforts on and off the ice.   A wonderful volunteer, Jenny is always willing to help with the Coaches and Skaters; she is fluently bilingual and has proven to be an asset to the club’s CanSkate program.  Congratulations Jenny!!

CanSkate – March Break is fast upon us, come out this weekend to help us celebrate at our “hula party”.   All CanSkaters are invited to get into the spirit, lei’s for everyone, grass skirts for coaches and PAs.

Reminder Daylights Savings Time , March 10th – Please note that clocks move ahead one hour.

Reminder Helmet Policy and Camera Policy – we would like to bring everyone’s attention to the current Skate Canada Helmet Policy and Camera Policy that are posted on the club’s website.  As a Skate Canada club, FHHSC is required to ensure that these policies are strictly adhered to and we ask for your continued support.

The only approved helmet for use on the ice is a CSA approved hockey helmet.  The CSA approved logo is located on the back of the hockey helmet affixed to the outer shell of the helmet.  If your skaters’ helmet does not have this marking on their helmet, it is not CSA approved.  Bicycle helmets and ski helmets are not approved for use during CanSkate sessions.

Power Skating Skills Camp – FHHSC is pleased to offer a Power Skating Skills Camp during the March Break.  For any of our future or current hockey players, who are interested in working on specific power skating skills, this training will be beneficial to your skater.  Details and registration form are available on the website.

ICE SHOW 2013
It is that time of year, and plans are well underway for the year end ice show.  The theme of this year’s show is “Beauty and the Beast on Ice” to be presented in two performances on April 13th & 14th, at 7:00 pm and 1:30 pm respectively.  Both Shows take place at the Constantine Arena.   Advanced tickets are available for sale now, please see us in the lobby of the arena.

All skaters from Pre Canskate, CanSkate to Senior STARSkate and Adult are invited to take part in the show on both days. This is a fun event and an excellent opportunity for your skater to demonstrate what they have learned throughout the year, it also gives parents, family and friends and excellent opportunity to sit back and enjoy watching their children/skater perform in costume.  Dress rehearsal is Saturday morning, April 13th.   It is a very full weekend, but well worth the effort.  Costume and practice sessions are provided for all skaters.   The success of our show is a direct result of the wonderful volunteers who help bring it all together.

CanSkate permission forms are attached.  All skaters taking part must have a form submitted, please complete the form and leave it in the box at the front of the arena.

As the show has two performances, and a dress rehearsal we ask that the parents volunteer one day and see the show on the other.   We encourage you to sign-up and help out in any way that you can.  It can’t happen without you!

Ice Show Colouring Contest – colouring sheets are attached.  Skaters are encouraged to participate in the contest.  All submissions will be on display during the ice show with prizes being awarded to all winners and the conclusion of the show.
